Living Unequal Futures: Examining Climate Change, Social Vulnerability, and the Imperative for Justice Among Risk-Populations in Nepal

The goal of this study is to explore how climate change disproportionately affects the livelihoods of vulnerable communities in Nepal, with a particular focus on rural Hilly Region and the Terai Region. It aims to understand how different groups, particularly smallholder farmers, indigenous communities, women, and the marginalized perceive, experience, and respond to climate change. It further aims at exploring how their adaptive strategies are shaped by underlying social, economic, and geographic vulnerabilities. Specifically, the objective is to assess the livelihood challenges faced by these groups and the coping mechanisms they employ. By grounding the research in the real-life experiences of those most at risk, the study seeks to generate insights that can guide to develop just and inclusive climate adaptation policies and strategies that are relevant to all three tiers of governments.
