Our Story
CSC through its many endeavors is committed in creating a responsive federal government and better policy environment through enhanced vigilance capacity and policy advocacies.
Last year, GMC Phase I was largely successful in bringing together experts, government representatives, civil society, stakeholders and local citizens to generate discussions on the most pressing issues pertinent in Health, Education and Migration governance in Nepal. Through rigorous studies, research reports, policy analyses, monitoring of media, blog articles and synopsis of precise information through infographics, GMC phase I was tremendously efficient in gathering information favorable for policy advocacy in the three areas of focus.
Simultaneously, in the recent years, CSC’s undertakings have heavily focused on creating harmonious spaces within society that foster peace and social cohesion and trust among communities. Nonetheless, this aspiration does not limit to communities only, rather it extends to components of governance at local, provincial and national levels as well.
Despite radical political and structural changes in the last decade, experts believe that Nepal’s citizen-government engagement is still severely limited. That, set against a background of deeply rooted perceptions and practices of social inequalities in terms of resource distribution, access to justice, meaningful representation and participation in formulation and implementations of laws and policies, often builds a terrain vital to rise of conflict.
Hence, reiterating the need to boost state-society cohesion and generate knowledge and evidences to increase capacities of key stakeholders to monitor, prevent, mitigate and resolve conflicts, GMC in its second phase aims to deconstruct the existing and probable inter-governance conflicts as well as conflicts between people and state. We do this by shedding light on the existing policies, laws, and execution programs and processes in our key areas through advanced qualitative research and quantitative statistical methods.
Our Goals
By digging into various evidence sources, we work to review and monitor prevailing laws, policies, and institutional mechanisms to understand the existing as well as probable grounds of conflict in 4 main areas: Natural resources, Development, Politics, and Ethnicity & Culture.
Through the use of multiple channels and research approaches, we delve into the roots of conflicts and decipher their sources, their impact on the communities, the dominant actors involved, and the trend wave of these conflicts.
We monitor all functional aspects of the current laws, policies, institution as well as community-built autonomous mechanisms in practice relevant to conflict management/ resolution/ transformation within governance systems, processes, bodies or between government and people.
Finally, we analyze all information gathered from various sources and disseminate our findings in the form of reports, policy briefs, infographics, and media engagements.
